Klefstadhaugen Skotthyllklubb

(Norway's finest Skotthyllbahn, 10-15min walk from Onsøyen Gård)

Skotthyll is considered the national sport of Trondheim. The origins of the sport are somewhat unclear, but it may be related to Scottish engineers who helped build the Trondhjem-Støren track in 1860. The first Trondheim Championship was held in 1934, and the Norwegian Skotthyll Association was founded in 1978.

The course consists of two platforms, 5x0.6 meters, with the front edges 11 meters apart. On top of the platforms are three "monks", wooden cones that are respectively 20, 25 & 30 cm. high. They are called 10, 20 and 30 (points) the monk. The point is to hit the three monks with the shelf, a steel plate with a diameter of 12.5 cm and a weight of 920 grams that you throw from the opposite platform. You get points according to how many monks you manage to knock down, i.e. the maximum score for a round is 60 points.
